Hoymiles V2X: A 22kW Bidirectional EV Charger for Home Backup

Hoymiles, a Chinese manufacturer already well known in the UK for its microinverters and hybrid inverters, has launched a new 22kW V2X DC charger — a home EV charger that can send power both ways. Announced on 7 September 2026 from the company's Hangzhou headquarters, the V2X lets a compatible electric car's battery power your home during a cut (vehicle-to-home, or V2H) or feed electricity back to the grid to earn money (vehicle-to-grid, or V2G), while also charging roughly three times faster than a standard home charger. No UK price or launch date has been confirmed, but the specification is a useful marker of where bidirectional home charging is heading next.
What the V2X actually does
Unlike the AC wallboxes most UK homes have (typically rated at 7kW), the V2X is a DC charger rated at up to 22kW. Hoymiles says that translates to roughly 110km of range added per hour, versus around 35km an hour from a conventional AC home charger — about three times faster, according to the company's own launch materials. It's designed to support around 95% of mainstream EVs and carries IP65 and IK10 ratings for outdoor, knock-resistant installation, with an EU MID-certified meter built in for accurate energy measurement.
The bidirectional part is what sets it apart from a fast charger you'd find on the public network. Because power can flow out of the car as well as in, the V2X supports both V2H (drawing on the car's battery to keep a home running during a grid outage, in the same way our guide to home battery storage covers for stationary batteries) and V2G (exporting stored energy back to the grid at times of peak demand, or when a supplier is paying more for it).
How it fits into Hoymiles' home energy ecosystem
Hoymiles frames the V2X as the piece that completes its home energy line-up, working alongside its existing HiOne all-in-one battery energy storage system (BESS). The charger is a standalone unit rather than being built into the battery cabinet, which Hoymiles says gives installers more flexibility over where the HiOne unit itself sits, since the charger can simply be mounted beside the parking space. In principle, that lets solar generation, home battery storage, an EV and the grid all be managed through one app-based ecosystem, rather than as separate, uncoordinated pieces of kit.
What Hoymiles hasn't said
Two things are missing from every source we checked — Hoymiles' own press release, PV Tech's coverage and Saur Energy's report all cover the same specification without adding pricing or a market rollout schedule. There's no confirmed price, and there's no confirmed UK availability or launch date. Hoymiles sells inverters into the UK market through installer channels already, so a UK release is plausible, but nothing here should be treated as a live UK product yet. We'll update this piece once Hoymiles confirms pricing or a UK stockist.
How this compares to V2G you can actually buy in the UK today
The UK already has a small number of genuinely live, tariff-backed V2G options, which we cover in full in our guide to vehicle-to-grid in the UK: Octopus Energy's Power Pack bundle (BYD Dolphin plus a Zaptec Pro charger), and the older Nissan Leaf/e-NV200 or Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV route through a Wallbox Quasar charger. Those are AC-based V2G systems, generally rated well below the V2X's 22kW DC figure, and they only work with the specific vehicle-and-charger pairings a supplier has certified and built a tariff around. The V2X's DC, higher-power approach is closer to the direction manufacturers are heading for faster, more flexible bidirectional charging, but until Hoymiles confirms a compatible-vehicle list, a UK price and a supplier tariff to plug it into, it isn't something a UK homeowner can order and use for V2G income today.

What to watch next
Bidirectional charging is moving from a handful of bespoke UK pilots towards mainstream hardware from established solar and battery brands, and Hoymiles' entry with a DC-rated, high-power unit is part of that shift.
