What I noticed
Zaptec is a Norwegian manufacturer with a reputation for build quality in harsh climates. The Go is their residential single-phase charger — 7.4kW untethered with built-in PEN fault detection (no earth rod needed for TN-C-S supplies) and a strong IP54 rating.
The Zaptec Portal is the back-end for smart features: scheduling, charge limits, energy reporting, and integration with home energy management systems. The Go is OCPP 1.6 compliant for third-party platform integration. Phase balancing across multiple Go units is automatic when they're connected to the same Portal account.
Who it suits
Households that value Scandinavian build quality and the elimination of the earth rod cost (saves £150-300 on TN-C-S installs). Particularly good for installs where the charger will be exposed to harsh weather year-round.
What I'd watch for
Solar-divert isn't a strong point — Zaptec's smart features are scheduling-led, not real-time PV-tracking. Lower UK installer familiarity than Zappi/Ohme — confirm experience before commit. Untethered only.
