What I noticed
Project EV is a UK distributor and brand that has carved out the value segment with smart-feature-complete chargers at noticeably lower prices than premium brands. The Apex 7S is their flagship 7.3kW single-phase wall unit with an integrated RFID reader, OCPP 1.6 support, and app-based scheduling.
Built-in DC fault protection (internal RCD-DD, AC 30mA / DC 6mA, equivalent to a Type A RCBO) plus Pro Earth PEN fault protection means installation doesn't require an external Type B RCD or an earth spike — saving on install costs. The 4G variant (APEX-7S-4G) adds cellular connectivity for installs without reliable WiFi.
Who it suits
Budget-conscious households who want smart-charging features (scheduling, app, RFID) without paying premium-brand prices. Also strong for multi-charger commercial-light installs where OCPP back-end management matters.
What I'd watch for
Project EV markets the APEX as "intelligent solar" compatible, but its solar-divert behaviour is less refined than dedicated solar-first chargers — for a true solar-led setup, also look at Zappi or Hypervolt. App polish is below premium brands. UK installer familiarity is growing but still patchy outside major cities. Rated 7.3kW (not 7.4kW) — minor.
