If you have asked more than one UK solar installer for a quote in 2026, there is a good chance three names have come back: Sigenergy, Sungrow, and Solis — the last usually paired with a Dyness battery rather than sold as its own all-in-one unit. All three are single-phase hybrid inverter and battery bundles built for a typical UK home, but they differ meaningfully on price, warranty structure, and how well they play with a smart home. The Sungrow figure is an estimate, not an invoiced quote — it is derived from the marginal hardware cost of a matching dual-inverter quote for the same property, rather than a retained single-unit invoice. Battery storage currently qualifies for 0% VAT under HMRC's energy-saving materials relief, running until 31 March 2027, which is already reflected in typical installer quotes.

Sigenergy SigenStor: the most capable, and the most expensive

Sigenergy's SigenStor is a genuinely 5-in-1 unit — hybrid inverter, battery, energy management system, and EV-charging readiness in one enclosure — and it is the highest-spec option here on paper. But it was also the most expensive of the three quotes, and at the 10 kW inverter tier the maximum usable output is noticeably lower relative to price than stepping up a Sungrow or Solis system to match.

The recall is worth knowing before you sign. In November 2025, Sigenergy issued a voluntary safety recall covering single-phase 8/10/12 kW SigenStor Energy Controllers fitted with a quick-connect AC plug that required ferrules and crimping — the affected plugs could overheat and, in a small number of cases, pose a fire risk. Sigenergy is providing free replacement controllers with a redesigned plug and extending the warranty on affected units from 10 to 12 years. Sungrow SH-RS: the reliability and integration pick

The Sungrow SH6.0RS is rated at up to 97.7% maximum efficiency (97.3% European efficiency), with two MPPT inputs and a 10-year standard warranty — solid, unspectacular numbers from one of the longest-established inverter manufacturers selling into the UK market. Where Sungrow stands out for smart-home owners is integration: there is an actively maintained, widely used open-source Home Assistant integration for the SH-RS range that reads inverter and battery data over Modbus/LAN, giving direct local control without depending on a manufacturer cloud app. Sigenergy and Solis both offer capable apps, but neither has an equivalent mature local-integration community around it.

Sungrow's battery, the SBS050, is sold in individual ~5.1 kWh modules, so a single-unit system has less usable capacity than the Sigenergy or Solis+Dyness bundles above — the trade-off is that adding a second inverter and battery later is a straightforward, well-supported expansion rather than a system swap.

Solis + Dyness: the value pairing

Solis is not a battery manufacturer — the S6-EH1P hybrid inverter is designed to work with a range of third-party high-voltage and low-voltage battery packs, and UK installers commonly pair it with Dyness. In this comparison, that pairing was the cheapest of the three quotes for the closest usable capacity to Sigenergy (9.73 kWh vs ~9.5 kWh), making it the strongest £-per-kWh figure on paper.

The main catch is warranty structure: Solis inverters ship with a 5-year standard warranty, extendable to 10 years free of charge if the installer registers the unit after installation — worth confirming explicitly with your installer rather than assuming it happens automatically. The Dyness Powerbox G2 battery carries its own separate 10-year, unlimited-cycle warranty direct from Dyness, and is IP66-rated with an automatic self-heating BMS for cold installations.

When a single hybrid inverter isn't enough

All three of the figures above are for a single inverter and single battery, which covers most UK homes. If your household's peak demand regularly exceeds what a single 6 kW-class inverter can deliver — for example, running an EV charger, induction hob and heat pump simultaneously — some installers will quote a dual-inverter, dual-battery configuration instead, roughly doubling both usable capacity and continuous output. That comparison has different cost-per-kWh economics again, since panels and installation labour are shared across both units rather than duplicated; it deserves its own breakdown rather than being folded into a single-vs-single comparison.

Verdict: which should you choose?

If Home Assistant integration or a long UK installer track record matters most, Sungrow's SH-RS series is the safer pick, even though a single unit holds less usable capacity than the other two. If raw capacity and features per module matter most and you are comfortable with a newer brand's post-recall hardware, Sigenergy's SigenStor is the most capable single unit — but you are paying a premium for it.
