TCL HEMS and SunPower Solar Panels: What Debuted at IFA 2026

TCL is using its Inspiration Habitat showcase at IFA Berlin 2026 (Hall 21A, Messe Berlin, 4–8 September) to present a Home Energy Management System alongside new residential solar hardware from its SunPower division. TCL describes the system as an intelligent platform that connects energy generation, storage, heating and household demand through a single interface, giving homeowners "greater visibility and control over energy optimisation." It's a software-first pitch built on top of hardware TCL already makes at industrial scale, rather than a single new gadget.

What the Home Energy Management System actually connects

TCL's own description keeps the scope broad: solar generation, battery storage, heating systems and household appliance demand, unified so a homeowner can see and adjust the whole picture rather than checking a separate app for the panels, the battery and the heat pump. TCL has not published a detailed feature list, screenshots of the dashboard, or which third-party devices and tariffs it integrates with — the announcement covers the concept and hardware line-up rather than the software's specifics. SunPower Origin: back-contact panels for the home

On the panel side, TCL showed the SunPower Origin back-contact module, which the company says combines back-contact and shingled-cell technology in one panel aimed at residential roofs. TCL hasn't published Origin-specific power or efficiency figures alongside the IFA reveal, but the same TCL SunPower back-contact line reached up to 505W and 24.7% efficiency (model SPR-BE54-HD505) with a 40-year product, performance and service warranty when TCL detailed specs for it in June 2026 — giving a sense of where this hardware family sits, even though Origin itself may differ in exact rating.

T5 Pro TOPCon and C2 back-contact panels

Alongside SunPower Origin, TCL displayed its T5 Pro TOPCon shingled panel line and C2 back-contact panels. T5 Pro comes in two sizes: the residential-focused T5 Pro S, rated 450–475W at up to 23.8% efficiency, and the larger T5 Pro L for commercial and utility-scale roofs, rated 640–670W at up to 24.8% efficiency. Both combine TOPCon cell technology with a shingled layout designed to remove inactive gaps between cells and capture more light across the panel surface. T5 Pro panels carry a 30-year performance warranty, an annual degradation rate of 0.35%, a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C, and bifaciality of up to 85% on the larger module. Battery storage and heat pumps, without detail

TCL's IFA materials also reference residential battery storage units and heat pump technology as part of the same showcase, but — as with the Home Energy Management System itself — the company has not disclosed capacities, outputs or model-level specifications for either at this stage. They appear to be part of the same connected-home story rather than standalone product launches with their own press details.

The industrial-to-home framing

TCL is leaning on its manufacturing scale to justify the pitch: the company says renewable sources made up 11.7% of TCL Industries' energy consumption across its own manufacturing operations in 2025, and frames that operational experience as the basis for "more reliable residential solutions." It's a company claim rather than an independently audited figure, but it explains why TCL — better known for TVs and appliances — is positioning itself in home energy management rather than just selling panels under the SunPower brand it operates.

What's still unconfirmed

TCL's IFA announcement is a showcase of concept and hardware line-up rather than a UK product launch: there's no UK pricing, release date, installer network or confirmed compatibility list for the Home Energy Management System, and Origin-specific and C2 panel specifications remain undisclosed. Treat this as TCL setting out its residential energy ambitions at IFA Berlin rather than a system UK buyers can order today.
