Growatt Solar Inverter Review UK: String, Hybrid Models & Pricing

Written and reviewed by Sepehr. See our editorial policy.

Growatt is one of the most widely fitted inverter brands on UK solar quotes, sitting in the budget-to-midrange bracket alongside Solis and GoodWe. Founded in Shenzhen in 2011, the company has grown into a genuine global player — S&P Global Commodity Insights named it a "Tier 1 PV inverter supplier" in October 2025, and it ranked 4th globally by inverter shipments in 2024, according to PV Tech's analysis of the year's market data. It also runs a UK-registered entity, Growatt New Energy Technology Limited (Companies House #08660706), incorporated since 2013. This review covers the string and hybrid ranges UK installers actually fit, real hardware pricing, the monitoring app, and how Growatt stacks up against the other brands we've reviewed.

Growatt's UK product range

Growatt sells two broad families for UK residential installs: plain string inverters (solar-only, no battery port) and hybrid inverters (built-in battery connection). Our solar inverter types explained guide covers the general difference in full; here's how Growatt's specific ranges break down.

MIN series — single-phase string

The MIN TL-X range covers single-phase homes from roughly 3kW to 10kW, with manufacturer datasheets quoting maximum efficiency up to 98.1% and European (weighted) efficiency of 97.3–97.6%, according to the published Growatt MIN 7000–10000 TL-X datasheet. It's the range most commonly quoted for a standard 3–4 bedroom semi with a clean, unshaded roof.

MOD series — three-phase string

For larger homes on a three-phase supply, the MOD TL3-X range spans roughly 3kW to 15kW, with datasheets quoting maximum efficiency up to 98.3–98.6% and European efficiency of 97.5–98.1%. It's a less common fit for typical UK terraces and semis, which are almost always single-phase, but turns up on larger rural properties.

SPH and MIN XH — hybrid (battery-ready)

Growatt's hybrid line for single-phase UK homes is the SPH series (3.0–6.0kW AC output, compatible with 3–12kWh of battery capacity per the SPH3000–6000 datasheet), plus the newer MIN XH range which folds hybrid capability into the MIN form factor at outputs up to 11.4kW. If a battery is likely within the next few years, a hybrid model avoids paying for a second inverter later — see our home battery storage guide for the payback maths.

Warranty

Growatt's standard warranty is 5 years from installation across its residential range, extendable free to 10 years total if you register the inverter online within 12 months of shipment, according to Growatt's own warranty page. Some UK resellers also offer paid extensions out to 20 years, though that isn't a Growatt-direct programme — check the small print with whoever sells you the extension. That 5-to-10-year baseline is shorter than SolarEdge's 12-year standard warranty or Enphase's 25-year microinverter warranty, which is the main trade-off for Growatt's lower upfront price.

UK hardware pricing

Growatt doesn't publish UK retail prices directly — its two authorised UK channels, Segen and Midsummer Wholesale, are trade-only and require an installer login. Public pricing from smaller UK solar retailers gives a reasonable feel for hardware cost (excluding installation labour):

  • MIC 3000TL-X (3kW string): around £318–£342 including VAT, per listings from theecosupermarket.co.uk and itstechnologies.uk.
  • MIN 6000TL-X (6kW string): around £576 including VAT, per eco-angels.uk.
  • MOD 10kW TL3-X (three-phase): around £799 including VAT, per eco-angels.uk.
  • MIN 6000TL-XH (6kW hybrid): around £718 including VAT, per eco-angels.uk.
  • SPH6000 (6kW hybrid): around £732 including VAT, per eco-angels.uk (note: pricing on hybrid units varies more between retailers than string models — get a live quote before budgeting).

These are hardware-only figures from independent UK resellers, not Growatt's own pricing, and installation labour, mounting and cabling are quoted separately by your installer. Treat them as a ballpark for comparing ranges, not a fixed cost.

Monitoring: the ShinePhone app

Growatt inverters connect to the ShinePhone app (also sold under the ShineServer web portal for historical data and configuration), which shows real-time generation, consumption, battery state and grid import/export, plus an "AI Smart Control" feature for tariff-based scheduling. It's available on iOS and Android. Worth flagging honestly: ShinePhone's App Store rating sits at 1.8 out of 5 from 314 ratings at the time of writing — a meaningfully weaker score than the monitoring apps from SolarEdge or Enphase. Some UK installer forum threads also flag WiFi dongle (ShineWiFi) dropouts that need a power-cycle to fix. None of this affects how the panels generate power, but if app polish and connection reliability matter to you, factor it in.

MCS certification and G98/G99

Any grid-connected inverter fitted in the UK must comply with Engineering Recommendation G98 (systems up to 3.68kW per phase, connect-and-notify) or G99 (larger systems, pre-approval required), and be listed on the MCS product certification database for the installation to qualify for MCS certification and Smart Export Guarantee eligibility, per SSEN's guidance on microgeneration connections. Growatt models have historically appeared on the MCS product directory, but certification status can change model-to-model and over time — always ask your installer to confirm the specific Growatt model you're being quoted is currently MCS-listed before signing anything, rather than assuming the whole range is covered.

How Growatt compares

Our full best solar inverter UK guide covers the wider market, but in short: Growatt occupies similar territory to Solis — both are budget-to-midrange Chinese-made string and hybrid ranges with efficiency figures in the high-97 to 98% band and 5–10 year warranties. UK installer commentary tends to position Growatt as the value pick: one UK solar blog puts it plainly, describing Growatt as the option "if you are focused on budget and simplicity," in contrast with SolarEdge's premium positioning. It sits below SolarEdge and Enphase on warranty length and monitoring polish, but well below them on price — for a straightforward, unshaded roof with a normal budget, that trade-off is exactly what most UK homeowners are choosing between.

Our verdict

Growatt is a legitimate, high-volume global manufacturer rather than an obscure budget brand, and its MIN and SPH ranges are fitted routinely by UK MCS-certified installers. Choose it if your priority is keeping hardware cost down on a clean, unshaded roof, or if you want a battery-ready hybrid without paying SolarEdge or GivEnergy-level prices. Choose something else — SolarEdge with optimisers, or Enphase microinverters — if your roof has persistent shading, or if a 20-plus-year warranty matters more to you than upfront price. Whatever you pick, confirm the exact model is currently on the MCS product database and get it fitted by an MCS-certified installer to keep your Smart Export Guarantee eligibility intact.

FAQs

Is Growatt a good solar inverter brand for UK homes?

Growatt is a Tier 1 global inverter manufacturer (S&P Global Commodity Insights, October 2025) fitted routinely by UK MCS-certified installers. It's a budget-to-midrange option similar in positioning to Solis — a sensible choice for a straightforward, unshaded roof where keeping hardware cost down matters more than the longest possible warranty.

How long is the warranty on a Growatt inverter?

Growatt's standard residential warranty is 5 years from installation, extendable free to 10 years if you register the inverter online within 12 months of shipment. That's shorter than SolarEdge's 12-year standard or Enphase's 25-year microinverter warranty.

What is the Growatt ShinePhone app?

ShinePhone is Growatt's monitoring app for tracking real-time generation, consumption, battery state and grid export, with tariff-based scheduling via its AI Smart Control feature. It's available on iOS and Android, though its App Store rating (1.8/5) trails the monitoring apps from SolarEdge and Enphase.

Are Growatt inverters MCS certified?

Growatt models have historically appeared on the MCS product certification database, but listings vary by specific model and can change over time. Always ask your installer to confirm the exact model you're being quoted is currently MCS-listed, since this affects your Smart Export Guarantee eligibility.
