BLUETTI EnergyFlex System: Portable Power Becomes Home Storage

BLUETTI used IFA Berlin 2026 (4-8 September, Messe Berlin) to launch the EnergyFlex System, described by the company as the world's first AC-AC "Portable-to-Grid" approach. Rather than buying a separate fixed home battery, owners of a compatible BLUETTI portable power station can dock it into an updated Transfer Hub connected to a grid-compliant balcony solar setup, turning that same battery into home energy storage — then unplug it and take it away as portable power whenever it's needed elsewhere. This is a distinct product from the Balco 500 balcony battery and the Phase-Match three-phase system BLUETTI also showed at IFA — those are dedicated fixed units, while EnergyFlex is built specifically to reuse a portable power station's battery instead of adding a new one.

The problem it's solving: idle portable batteries

Portable power stations are bought for camping, power cuts and van life, but for most owners they sit unused indoors between trips. BLUETTI's pitch with EnergyFlex is to stop that battery going to waste: dock it into the Transfer Hub and it becomes part of a home energy system — handling solar self-consumption, tariff-aware charging and backup power — for as long as it's parked at home, and switch back to a standalone portable unit the moment it's unplugged and carried off. It's the same underlying idea as vehicle-to-home (V2H) discharge, applied to a portable power station instead of an EV battery.

How the Transfer Hub works

The updated Transfer Hub is the physical link between the portable power station and the home. According to BLUETTI's own EU product listing, it accepts up to 850VA from a connected power station and supports up to 2,300W of bypass charging, weighs 8.8lb (4kg), carries an IP54 rating for splash and dust resistance, and comes with a two-year warranty. Setup is designed to be plug-and-play: connect the power station to the hub, plug the hub into a wall socket, and it's ready to manage energy flow without an electrician.

Output: up to 800W grid-tied, over 2.6kW off-grid

Once docked, the Transfer Hub delivers grid-tied output of up to 800W, in line with the output cap most European balcony-solar ("Balkonkraftwerk"-style) schemes allow, though BLUETTI notes this is subject to local rules and final market configuration. Detached and running off-grid, output can exceed 2.6kW, depending on which power station is connected — a big step up, since off-grid output isn't capped by grid-tie regulations the way the docked mode is. The system supports one primary unit plus up to five secondary units (six in total), which BLUETTI says can form a wireless distributed energy network across multiple rooms via its "Space" feature, or be detached individually in seconds when one is needed elsewhere.

Smart scheduling and app control

EnergyFlex's charging and discharge scheduling can factor in electricity tariffs, weather forecasts, solar generation and household demand — the same tariff-aware logic BLUETTI uses across its Balco 500 and BlueBot AI-HEMS products. BLUETTI states the system works with its own app plus Home Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Shelly integrations, which matters for anyone already running a home energy management setup and wanting the portable battery to slot into existing automations rather than a walled-garden app.

UK availability

BLUETTI has not confirmed UK pricing or a launch date for the EnergyFlex System or the updated Transfer Hub at the time of writing; the announcement so far covers the IFA showcase and BLUETTI's EU storefront, where earlier Transfer Hub bundles (paired with specific power stations such as the Elite 400 and Apex 300) are already listed without published prices. Given BLUETTI already sells balcony-solar hardware into the UK market, a UK launch is plausible but unconfirmed — we'll update this article once BLUETTI publishes UK-specific pricing or availability.

What we still don't know

BLUETTI's IFA reveal confirmed the Transfer Hub's core specs and the 800W/2.6kW output split, but several details remain open: the full list of compatible power stations, UK pricing for the hub and any bundles, and a firm UK release date.
