Midea AI ECOMASTER: Solar-First Home Energy Management at IFA 2026

Midea used IFA Berlin 2026 (Hall 5.1, Messe Berlin, 4–8 September) to unveil SMART MASTER, a whole-home AI ecosystem built around a natural-language AI Agent and a set of specialist "agents" that each handle a different part of home life. The energy piece of that system — which Midea's materials frame as AI ECOMASTER, sitting inside what the company also calls its Efficiency Agent — is the one that matters most for anyone with rooftop solar and a battery: rather than optimising each appliance in isolation, it treats connected appliances as a network and leans on whichever power source is cheapest at that moment, solar first, battery second, grid last.
What Midea has actually confirmed
According to Midea's own announcement and the accompanying PR Newswire release, the Efficiency Agent behind AI ECOMASTER is pitched as a response to "rising electricity prices and growing pressure to reduce carbon emissions." Confirmed features are: a whole-home consumption dashboard that tracks usage trends, solar contribution, running costs and emissions; automatic operation of appliances such as washing machines and robot vacuums during periods of peak solar generation; and scheduling of the same tasks into cheaper off-peak tariff windows when solar output is low. SMART MASTER also includes separate Comfort, Health and Service agents covering air conditioning, kitchen appliances and fault diagnosis, but those sit outside the energy-management piece this article covers.
Coordinating appliances as a network, not one by one
The distinction Midea is drawing is between optimising a single appliance's energy use and optimising the household as a whole. Washing machines and robot vacuums are relatively small loads next to the biggest flexible demand most solar households have: an EV charger.
