What I noticed
The Enphase IQ8+ is a microinverter — one unit per solar panel, rather than one central inverter for the whole array. This completely eliminates shading losses: if a chimney shadows one panel, only that panel underperforms. Every other panel continues operating at full output. For complex roofs with multiple orientations or unavoidable shade, this architecture consistently outperforms string inverters.
Who it suits
Roofs with shading from chimneys, dormers, trees, or multiple pitches. Also a strong choice for east/west split installs where the two sides of the roof generate at different times of day.
Watch for
At ~£149 per panel, the cost premium over a string inverter is significant for larger arrays. On a shading-free south-facing roof, a conventional string inverter will produce very similar output at lower cost. The 25-year warranty is exceptional but is unit-per-panel, not a single claim.
