What IKEA's heat pump offer actually includes

IKEA doesn't manufacture the heat pump itself. The unit, installation and ongoing service are all delivered by Aira, a Swedish heat pump company that trains and employs its own installers rather than subcontracting to a wider network. Per IKEA's own UK site, the package includes:

Installation by Aira-trained installers, rather than a marketplace of third-party fitters, which IKEA frames as a way of keeping install quality consistent.

Pricing: there's no fixed price list

IKEA doesn't publish heat pump prices on its site. Instead, you submit your details through the IKEA website and Aira follows up with a bespoke quote based on your home assessment — the same model IKEA uses for kitchen installations, just applied to heating. That's consistent with how heat pumps are priced across the UK market generally: system size, property insulation, whether you need a hot water cylinder swap, and local labour rates all move the final number more than the brand on the outdoor unit does.

What about IKEA solar panels?

It's worth being explicit here, because search results on this topic are genuinely confusing: IKEA does not currently sell solar panels in the UK. IKEA ran a UK solar offer between 2017 and 2019, in partnership with Hanergy and later Solarcentury, but withdrew it when the Feed-in Tariff closed in March 2019, telling press at the time that the commercial offer was no longer viable for most customers. An Aira heat pump bought through IKEA is MCS-certified in the same way as any other qualifying installation, so it's eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) on the same terms as buying direct from any MCS-registered installer: a £7,500 grant in England and Wales, taken as a discount on the installer's invoice rather than a homeowner claim, with a further £1,500 off-gas-grid uplift for homes with no mains gas connection — a maximum of £9,000 off the installed cost. Because Aira does the actual work either way, buying "through IKEA" versus contacting Aira directly shouldn't change the hardware or the installer who turns up — it mainly adds the £250 voucher and puts the enquiry through IKEA's booking flow instead of Aira's own site. The trade-off against a dedicated heat pump brand like Mitsubishi Ecodan, Vaillant aroTHERM or Daikin Altherma is less about IKEA and more about Aira as an installer: a newer entrant with its own trained workforce, versus manufacturers with decades of UK MCS-accredited installer networks behind them. Neither is automatically better — get quotes from more than one route and compare the specific model, warranty terms and final price after the BUS grant, not just the badge on the box.
