What I noticed

Canadian Solar is one of the world's largest panel manufacturers with over 20 years of track record and a global install base. The HiKu7 is their mid-range PERC module — 410W, 20.9% efficiency, solid 15-year product warranty and 25-year performance warranty. It is not a flashy panel but it is a dependable one from a company that will almost certainly still be operating when the warranty expires.

At around £210 per panel installed, it sits comfortably below TOPCon and HJT options while delivering a genuine 410W. The 0.55% annual degradation rate is the PERC standard — higher than TOPCon but still leaves around 86% output at year 25, well within acceptable range for a 25-year performance guarantee.

Who it suits

Budget-conscious homeowners on roofs with enough space to fit adequate panels without worrying about efficiency per square metre. If you have a large unshaded south-facing roof, a quality PERC panel from a reputable manufacturer like Canadian Solar is often the sensible choice — you get more panels for the same money, and the generation figures stack up. Also suits anyone who wants manufacturer longevity baked into the warranty decision.

What I'd watch for

PERC will degrade slightly faster than TOPCon panels over 25 years — the difference is real but modest in practice (around 6–8% less output at year 25 compared to a TOPCon with 0.4% degradation). If you are optimising for maximum lifetime yield from a constrained roof, TOPCon is the better choice. For unconstrained roofs on a budget, the Canadian Solar HiKu7 makes a strong case. Check which variant your installer is quoting — Canadian Solar has multiple HiKu7 lines at different wattages.
