DIY solar installation guide
Plan your own solar install from scratch. Work through the six steps below to size your system, pick every component, and leave with a complete shopping list and cost estimate.
- Step 1
Assess your energy usage
Calculate how much electricity you use annually — this determines how many panels you need.
- Step 2
Choose your solar panels
Pick the panels that fit your roof space and budget. We'll calculate how many you need.
- Step 3
Choose your inverter
The inverter converts DC power from your panels to AC for your home. We size it to match your array.
- Step 4
Add a battery (optional)
A battery stores surplus generation for evening use. Skip this step if you prefer a time-of-use tariff.
- Step 5
Mounting, wiring and accessories
Racking, DC cable, MC4 connectors, isolators, and generation meter — the full bill of materials.
- Step 6
Certificates and sign-off
We handle Part P sign-off, DNO notification, and MCS certification — making your DIY install fully compliant and SEG-eligible.
